A Legacy Rooted in Travel

Youth hosteling in South Asia traces its roots to the per-independence era, when organized travel began promoting education, exploration, and cultural understanding among young people. Built on the ideals of affordable mobility and meaningful exchange, the movement encouraged youth to discover new places while fostering responsibility, independence, and community.
Formally established in December 1951, the Pakistan Youth Hostels Association (PYHA) became one of the region’s pioneering organizations dedicated to structured youth hosteling. PYHA has played a vital role in making travel accessible to generations of students, backpackers, and young explorers.
Over the decades, thousands of travelers have stayed in PYHA hostels while pursuing education, volunteering, tourism, and adventure across Pakistan.
